Hollywood is a district of the city of Los Angeles, California, located north-west of the city center. The population is estimated to be about 300,000 units (the districts of Los Angeles does not have official boundaries).  Due to its fame as a center of the world of cinema and stardom, although no longer has the importance of the years between 1920 and 1940, the word Hollywood is often used metaphorically to mean the American film industry.  Visitors looks like a rather drab, built without a precise urban connotation, formed by low buildings and wide streets and boulevards places on the edge of the two famous streets Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard Wiltshire, within reaps big studios ( 21 in the period of greatest prosperity) and the homes of actors, directors and producers, usually located on the slopes of the nearby hills of Beverly Hills.   Both in this quarter of the city not far losangelina that in centers of Burbank, Glendale, Culver City and Santa Monica also arise factories developing and printing film, synchronization and so on. Since the twenties the history of Hollywood was intertwined with the history of American cinema: the late nineteenth century Hollywood had yet to be a ranch, now a village just at the beginning of the next century. Population growth and the reputation as the “Mecca of cinema” came not much later, in 1910, more or less through the struggle for patents film, which broke out in the United States in those years (exactly in 1907): that then it was the most powerful company, the Motion Picture Patents Company, monopolized all patent, preventing competitors from making films, and more from New York to Chicago (which was then the center of film production) independent producers inziarono to move with the their crews in California, the state in which the monopoly of MMPC was not legally valid, and that was how they came to Hollywood.
